Muscat Private Hospital (MPH) will organise a blood donation camp on July 2 to raise awareness on the importance of donating blood.

This year’s theme “Giving Blood Regularly” is an effort to commit volunteer donors to give blood regularly and over the long-termand hopes this sense of social engagement can be the foundation of a stable voluntary donor pool.

“The clinical demand for blood is rising throughout the world to support advancements in medical and surgical procedures. Though the pattern of blood usage varies in different countries, there is still a great need for it in the treatment of complications during pregnancy and childbirth and severe childhood anaemia. The honour, spirit and resources of the people comes forth with neighbours helping neighbours in need - during earthquakes, floods, fires, storms and also for the deeply personal and often quiet disasters that require a gift of blood,” explained MPH hospital director Gerard Strong

“Every two seconds, someone somewhere is in need of blood. Every year, on an average, scores of units of blood are required out of which only a meagre amount of blood is actually available. It’s not that people don’t want to donate blood. Many a times it’s just that they are not aware of a need. As a result, needy people end up going through a lot of pain.”

MPH intends to create a platform where donors and recipients could come together. June 14 is universally celebrated as the World Blood Donor Day and the hospital feels it is the appropriate time to share information about the importance of blood donation.

The camp at MPH premises is open from 9 am to 2 pm. It is open to everyone, including the hospital staff.

The initiative also aims to highlight the role blood donors play in saving lives and improving the health of thousands. – TradeArabia News Service
