  Gulf Arab countries announced on Tuesday they were recalling their ambassadors from Damascus and expelling Syrian envoys in response to worsening violence in Syria.

  British companies with defined benefit pension schemes are likely to face rising pressure to plug deficits that could grow by 85 billion pounds ($134 billion) this year against a backdrop of falling bond yields and prolonged market volatility, a survey on Tuesday showed.

  President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives, widely credited with bringing democracy to the hideaway resort islands, resigned on Tuesday after weeks of opposition protests erupted into a police mutiny and what an aide said amounted to a coup.
