MANAMA, December 3, 2020

Bank ABC, a leading international bank in the Mena region, has won the Bank of the Year in Bahrain, award from The Financial Times publication 'The Banker magazine' in recognition for its robust growth strategy, resilient performance and pioneering strides in digital transformation.

The Bahrain-based bank provides global coverage for corporates and financial institutions, and innovative wholesale banking products including transaction banking, project and structured finance, syndications, treasury and financial market products and Islamic banking.

The Banker magazine organised the 2020 awards ceremony on a virtual platform, yesterday (December 2), which was attended by CEOs and C-Suite executives from around the globe.

The FT publication awards are aimed at rewarding and promoting industry-wide excellence in the global banking community where in banks from 150 countries are evaluated on a host of parameters, including financial performance, technology and innovation. And this year, there was another criterion - the Covid-19 pandemic response.

The rigorous judging process by FT’s panel of editors usually takes over five months, and hence these awards are among the most coveted and widely regarded as the 'Oscars' of the banking industry.

Bank ABC has the distinction of receiving this honour twice, having won the award for the year 2017 as well, said its top official.

"We are very honoured to receive this recognition for the second time and in the midst of a unique storm caused by the pandemic. Bank ABC’s vision, its consistent commitment to all its stakeholders and pioneering digital transformation enabled it to weather an extremely hostile year," remarked the Group Chairman Saddek Omar El Kaber.

"This has been recognised not just by our industry peers and rating agencies, but now by The Banker Awards," he added.

Bank ABC also provides retail banking services through its network in Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria and in Bahrain through the digital mobile-only bank ila.-TradeArabia News Service
