Oman awards $255m power transmission contracts

MUSCAT, December 22, 2014

Oman Electricity Transmission Company has awarded six contracts worth RO87 million ($225 million) for several infrastructure projects related to the new grid station in the sultanate.

These include expansion of a number of existing plants, reinforcement of overhead transmission lines (OHL) and consultancy services for construction of new grid stations in many areas, said a statement from Oman Electricity Transmission Company.

The first contract has been awarded for the construction of the new 220/132/33-kV grid station at Sohar Free Zone, which will be carried out by Galfar Engineering and Construction Company at a cost of RO18.4 million ($48 million).

The second tender was for the construction of a 400-kV overhead transmission line between Izki and Misfah grid stations. The work will be carried out by Gulf Jyoti International and Jyoti Constructions at a cost of RO18.8 million ($49 million).

The third tender was for upgrading Misfah Grid Station to 400 kV and the work will be carried out by Larsen & Toubro (Oman) at a cost of RO21.6 million ($56 million).

The fourth deal has been awarded for reinforcing the current network in Muscat with a 132-kV linking system between Al Falaj, Muttrah and Wadi Kabir grid stations and adding a fourth 125 MVA transformer at Wadi Kabir Grid Station.

The work will cost about RO17.5 million ($45 million) and will be carried out by Bahwan Engineering Company.

The fifth contract is for the construction of new 132-kV grid station and 132-kV OHL in Al Dreez area at a cost of about RO10.31 million ($27 million) and the work will be carried out by Anabensa Company and Sarooj group.

The final one was for consultancy services for design and supervision of a 400-kV grid station at Sohar IPP-3 (independent power project), Sohar Free Zone and Sieh Almakarem and a 400-kV line connection between Sohar Free Zone to Mahadha and a 400-kV line  between Sohar Free Zone and Sieh Almakarem.

These projects will contribute to strengthening the efficiency and reliability of the main network in the sultanate by reducing the huge demand on the existing grid stations, stated Oman Electricity Transmission Company.

Also, the new projects will help ease the demand caused by developing and overpopulated in the regions that these grid stations cover, it added.

CEO Ali bin Said Al Haddabi said the Oman Electricity Transmission Company was proud to be part of the overall development plans in the country in the implementation of many vital energy projects.

"Our job is to operate, maintain, reinforce and develop the assets of transmission network in the sultanate and manage control of production and demand on electricity," stated Al Haddabi.

"We pledge to deliver our services in electricity power transmission both safely and economically which will eventually saves Oman energy," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
