The sewage treatment plant to come up at Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City.

SSH wins Kuwait sewage treatment plant contract

KUWAIT, November 30, 2015

SSH, a leading infrastructure, building design and project management firm in the Middle East, said it has won a major contract to design a sewage treatment plant for an ongoing waterside residential development in Kuwait.

The massive Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City, a 6.4-million-sq-m waterside residential project, will come up at Khiran, about 85 km south of capital, Kuwait City. It is being developed by La’ala Al Kuwait Real Estate Company.

As per the deal, SSH will undertake concept, preliminary and detailed design of the treatment plant at the development, which was formerly known as Al Khiran Pearl City.

On the contract win, SSH’s resident director for Kuwait, George Abi Hanna, said it was indeed honoured to be given the opportunity to work on such a prestigious development which contributes to sustainability in Kuwait.

Masterplanned by UK firm Buro Happold, the project that was begun in 2002 is eventually expected to accommodate around 100,000 people on completion of all phases.

The sewage treatment plant will have a capacity of 45,000 cu m a day and will use sequencing batch reactor (SBR) technology, said the statement from SSH.

The company has roped in process engineering firm P2MBerlin as specialist sub-consultant for the project.

The system will include the use of UV (ultraviolet) and chlorine disinfection for the production of reusable treated sewage effluent which will be pumped back into the local irrigation network for use on landscaping.-TradeArabia News Service
