Iraq issues tender for 200,000 T white sugar

Baghdad, January 27, 2010

Iraq has issued a tender to buy up to 200,000 tonnes of white sugar from origins in Brazil, Britain, the UAE, France, Belgium, Thailand or Argentina, the Trade Ministry said in a statement.

The Trade Ministry's State Company for Foodstuff Trading said in a tender that interested bidders must submit bids by February 3. Offers must be valid for seven days after the closing date, it said in a statement.

Iraq's farm sector has been devastated by years of war and sanctions and the nation is now one of the world's largest importers of wheat and rice. It is also a major sugar importer. – TradeArabia News Service
