Foetal congress under way in Al Ain

International experts are discussing the latest developments in perinatal medicine at a major health conference which opened in Al Ain yesterday (March 3).

Tawam Hospital, along with Johns Hopkins Medicine and Faculty of Medicine and Health Services, UAE University, is hosting the three-day ‘International Foetal Congress 2009’.

Foetal congenital abnormalities and preterm labour are the leading causes for perinatal mortality in the UAE, a statement said.

Topics discussed at the congress will include; central nervous system, renal tract, cardiac abnormalities, genetic and chromosomal abnormalities, skeletal abnormalities, multi fetal pregnancy and invasive procedures, medical disorders in pregnancy, first trimester sonogram, preterm labour, intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR).

“It is our hope that this congress will generate substantial information so that health care providers can successfully promote perinatal care services throughout the UAE and GCC,” said Dr Ali Al Obadli, director clinical affairs, Seha.

The conference will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and knowledge concerning current research and its applications in the field of fetal medicine.

Participating bodies at the congress are; Tawam Hospital, Al Ain Medical University of Vienna, Emirates Perinatal Society (member of Emirates Medical Association) and the Arab Association of Fetal Maternal Medicine.
