Oman aims to develop fisheries sector

Oman is taking several major steps in developing its fisheries sector, with the aim of making the sultanate a regional hub in this sector, said a senior official in a report.
“We are trying to build Oman as a hub for fisheries in the region because of availability of fish from the Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea,” Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries Dr Fuad bin Jaafar Al Sajwani, was quoted as saying in a Times of Oman report.
He added that fisheries sector is a very promising because of the sultanate’s opportunities, facilities, long coastal areas, and different species of fish in the country.
He also confirmed that the production of fisheries sector is also growing in a good manner and major part of the production is exported.
Al Sajwani noted that Oman has an investment regime that is favourable to foreign investors in the agriculture and fisheries sector, added the report.
