National Academy of Military Industries to be set up in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH, May 22, 2022

The General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI) has announced plans to establish the National Academy of Military Industries that will train, rehabilitate and enable national personnel to work in the military and defence sectors.
Announcing this at a grand ceremony today (May 22) GAMI said this will contribute in a big way to help achieve Saudisation targets and also help boost the skills of the kingdom's human resources, reported SPA.
The ceremony, held at the academy’s headquarters in Riyadh, was attended by more than 35 local and international companies and relevant government institutions.
During the event, GAMI also unveiled plans to set up a new board of directors for the academy under the chairmanship of Engineer Walid Abu Khalid and hand over the establishment licence to him.
The board will comprise representatives from the public and private sectors who will be supported by the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation and industrial companies.
GAMI Governor Engineer Ahmad Abdulaziz Al Ohali pointed out that the establishment of an independent and specialised academy in the military and defense sector is an extension of the military industries sector strategy that was endorsed by the cabinet in April last year.
"This academy will be the biggest supporter for the strategy of the sector that counts on the national human resources, pointing out that the localization of technologies is connected with the localization of the capabilities of the national human resources," he noted.
GAMI said it was committed to supporting the national human personnel, especially when the military industries sector in Saudi Arabia has witnessed qualitative leaps over the past five years.
Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) CEO and Chairman Engineer Abu Khalid said that the National Academy of Military Industries is considered a strategic tool to ensure the success of the supply chain project in the military industries sector through developing and refining the knowledge and capabilities of the human element in the specialized technological, engineering and scientific fields and specializations concerned with the military, defense and security industries, reported SPA.
The National Academy of Military Industries is spread over a 65,000 sq m area in the kingdom and has a capacity of around 2,000 students, it added.
