63 killed in Indian train derailment

NEW DELHI, November 20, 2016

At least 63 people were killed and more than 150 others injured today (November 20) as 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna express derailed in the state of Uttar Pradesh, a report said.

The incident took place at around 3 am near Pukhrayan, about 100 km from Kanpur, reported The Times of India.

According to railways officials, the casualties could rise as the rescue operations are under way.

"All hospitals have been asked to be on alert. More than 30 ambulances are pressed into service," IG Kanpur, Zaki Ahmed was quoted as telling new agency ANI.

Over 250 police officials are helping carrying out rescue and relief operations, he added.
