Bahrain parliament ‘may deny airline aid’
Manama, March 27, 2012
The financial committee of Bahrain’s parliament may turn down a government request to pump BD660 million ($1.75 billion) into national carrier Gulf Air, said a senior official.
“Sanctioning such a request means backing corruption and squandering of public money,” committee chairman MP Ali Al Dirazi said, calling for all those involved in the airline’s decline to be prosecuted.
The BD400 million injected into the airline recently had failed to improve its performance or profitability, he pointed out.
A female executive secretary earns more than BD7,000 a month, clearly indicating that money is being wasted in the absence of accountability, he told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej. – TradeArabia News Service
