The video usage for the international edition of CNN.com has seen a record 250 per cent increase during the same period last year.
The news comes a nine months on the heels of the global re-launch of CNN.com when users were introduced to an enhanced online destination.
In the nine months since October 2007, CNN International upped its online video servings by 79%.
During the month of May, Myanmar-related coverage across the international and US editions combined generated more than 12.5 million page views; while reporting about the earthquake in China and the millions it affected received 9.9 million page views.
CNN International was the first foreign broadcaster to have a correspondent on the ground in Myanmar reporting on the aftermath of the cyclone, said a top CNN official.
“We are actively embracing innovative ways of distributing content, and the recent world news agenda has really complemented the increasing appetite for online video amongst our audience”, commented Nick Wrenn, Managing Editor, CNN International (EMEA).
"Last year we invested in online video to bring more of our international reports to a wider global audience. The increase in video usage shows our strategy is paying dividends and we're now well placed to build out our content on different diverse platforms."
Last July, the company enhanced the international and US editions of CNN.com to incorporate superior user functionality including multi-media storytelling, integrated live online video, advanced personalisation and audience feedback tools.
In the first quarter of 2008, the international edition of CNN.com registered a 157 per cent increase in unique visitors globally versus the three months immediately prior to re-launch.
In May this year, CNN International cemented its position as an innovator in the digital space when the company became the first international news organisation to launch a video-enabled Google Gadget, on iGoogle.-TradeArabia News Service
