Sharjah holds 34 virtual events to raise awareness

The Health Promotion Department (HPD) at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah said that about 5,600 individuals from all age groups have been benefited from the awareness-raising activities organized by the department in July.

The events included 34 virtual lectures and workshops delivered by 12 doctors and health specialists from inside and outside the country, in addition to a number of health educators.

The activities have achieved 93% customer satisfaction rate, thanks to the important topics covered by these events, such as physical and mental activity, as well as tips about the infectious disease prevention.

Iman Rashid Saif, HPD Director, said: “As being an integral part of the UAE’s health system and as part of our national responsibility, we have been keen to launch programs and initiatives supportive of the country’s efforts in attaining the post-Covid-19 strategic objectives, by enhancing health awareness of community members about the health challenges they will face in coming stage and improving the public health levels to help build a healthy society and consolidate Sharjah’s reputation and status.”

“Our lectures and workshops are characterized by inclusiveness and diversity. This has been achieved by focusing on the health and mental aspect of community members, including the challenges they face after returning to work in light Covid-19 pandemic and how to confront it and the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to immunize ourselves against communicable disease, in addition to providing tips about healthy diet and how to relieve stress and anxiety,” she added.

“Parallel to this, the HPD has worked on exploring the ongoing health challenges and developing the relevant strategies and plans. This includes updating the Healthy Schools Program standards to cope with the preventive measures in place to control the spread of infectious disease and supporting salt reduction strategic plan across the emirate to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and to curb chronic diseases,” the HPD Director concluded.

During the same month, the HPD has also published over 32 posts and videos, as well as 4 digital awareness brochures on its social media platforms, including tips and advice on how to follow a healthy and balanced diet, the importance of physical activity in promoting physical and mental health, ways to prevent obesity, high blood cholesterol, respiratory disease, and breast cancer, as well as special posts in conjunction with world health days.

Recently, the Department has released an awareness-raising online series about nutrition essentials for mothers and children and how to meticulously plan for daily meals and food portions at the various stages of life. – TradeArabia News Service
