Bahrain's Dragon City set for grand opening

MANAMA, December 26, 2015

Dragon City, Bahrain's very own $100 million China Town and a major retail project in the western part of Diyar Al Muharraq, will open its doors tomorrow under the Patronage of His Royal Highness Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

A first of its kind development in Bahrain, Dragon City will offer unique wholesale and retail opportunities to local consumers, trade customers and tourists.

Spread over a total land area of 115,000 sq m with a built up area of 56,000 sq m, the retail development encompasses Dragon Mall and a themed “Dining Village.”

The Mall design is influenced with Chinese architectural and cultural aspects incorporating over 360 commercial units for both retail and wholesale trade, and additionally a 4,500 sq m area designated for warehouses and a car park large enough to accommodate 1,500 cars.

Diyar Al Muharraq chairman Abdulhakeem Alkhayyat said: "It is a great honour for us to be holding the official opening of Dragon City under the Patronage of HRH the Prime Minister whose presence is indeed a true reflection of his great concern and support to projects that will further enhance the Bahraini economy."

"We at Diyar Al Muharraq are totally committed to be active and major participants in supporting our national economy and to developing and diversifying investments in order to attract further investment in the kingdom due to its benefit to the Kingdom as a whole and to the people of Bahrain," remarked Alkhayyat.

“In its enormous success in attracting a substantial number of Chinese investments as well as a vast number of businessmen and women and tourists from both the Kingdom and the region, Dragon City has already played a significant role in enhancing the growth of our economy and it will continue to do so as it is set to create many employment opportunities for the skilled Bahraini workforce,” he added.

Diyar Al Muharraq CEO Dr Maher Al Shaer, described Dragon City as a modern business module that represents the advanced architectural and economic level which the Kingdom is witnessing on different fronts.

"It is also a testament to the trust placed by foreign investors in the Kingdom due to the solid and secure investment environment it provides, in addition to it being an open economy that encourages both property development and commercial investments alike," he noted.

Dragon City will open its doors to welcome the public at 12 noon on Sunday (December 27).

The retail development has succeeded in attracting hundreds of Chinese industrial and trade companies as the occupancy rate reached 95 per cent of which 10 have been leased by Bahraini companies.

Also, as of today, 60 per cent of the total commercial units are ready to welcome visitors, offering customers a large variety of products including, construction material, lighting equipment, furniture, electronics, electrical appliances and fashion wear for adults and children in addition to a Food Court.

To mark the grand opening of Dragon City, Chinamex is holding a three-day Chinese-style artist performance and Chinese branded car raffles to the public, giving the people in Bahrain a chance to experience Chinese culture and Chinese made products.
