Dubai wins best health tourism destination award

DUBAI, September 7, 2015

Dubai has won the 'Best Destination of the Year' award at the 10th World Health Tourism Congress (WHTC) which concluded in Dubai, UAE, on Monday.

Ahmad Ibrahim Saif Kalban of Dubai Health Authority (DHA) received the award on behalf of Dubai at the award ceremony held at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai.

Organized by Grand Aurum Marketing for the second consecutive year in Dubai with the cooperation of Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and support of Arab Tourism Organization and Executive Board of GCC health ministers, the two-day congress was attended by ministers, senior government officials, medical and health experts and other tourism industry stakeholders from more than 80 countries. It was held at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Academic Medical Centre in Dubai Health Care City (DHCC).

Dr Tawfiq bin Ahmed Khoja, director general of the executive board of the GCC Health Ministers Council, praised the efforts made by the Dubai Health Authority to develop health tourism, pointing out that Dubai was a competitive destination for health tourism compared with Switzerland, Germany and the UK.

The Dubai Healthcare City has achieved significant growth over the past years with over half a million people coming for medical treatments in 2011 and since then the growth in medical tourists has been constantly increasing.

At the WHTC 2015 award ceremony, the Industry Association of the Year award was presented to Malaysia Health Travel Council, while the Emirates was declared the 'Airline of the Year'.

The award for Medical Tourism Facilitator went to Sehteq while Moorfields bagged the 'International Patient Care Team of the Year' award.

Nextcare won the 'Medical Administrator' award. The 'Marketing Initiative of the Year' award was given to Clinique du Levant. Personality of the Congress award went to Dr Bandar bin Fehaid. Appreciation awards were presented to Dr Mansour Al Wakeel, Dr Mohamad Sulial and Hisham Al Rabi. - TradeArabia News Service
