Bahrain Airport Company official elected as ACI committee member

MANAMA, August 13, 2018

Najwa Abdul Rahim, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) vice president of Information & Communication Technology, has been elected to the ACI World Airport IT Standing Committee (WAITSC) following a successful nomination by Bahrain International Airport (BIA).

In this role, she will help to develop recommended practices and standards for airport IT and promote the digitisation of airports across the world. This significant appointment is in recognition of Rahim’s extensive expertise.

Airport Council International (ACI) represents the world’s airports and their collective interests. It promotes professional excellence in airport management and operations, and works closely with prominent aviation organisations such as ICAO and Iata to develop standards, policies, and recommended practices.

The WAITSC actively works to develop IT guidelines on all airport IT related practices and communicate them to the airport community. Rahim will help to develop IT industry policy guidelines and positions on issues affecting airport automation, telecommunications infrastructure, and related passenger and cargo services.

The WAITSC is currently working on a number of initiatives to help streamline airport IT operations and passenger movements, including projects related to digital transformation, cybersecurity, blockchain, the Internet of Things, and chatbot technology.

As BAC’s vice president of Information & Communication Technology, Rahim plays a vital role in ensuring a smooth overall experience for passengers at BIA. Her responsibilities include planning and executing strategies to improve performance, cost-effectiveness, and service quality, as well as ensuring the availability, integrity, and accessibility of information to BAC users, partners, and customers.
