Spanish pavilion to showcase Murcia region at Expo 2020

DUBAI, February 22, 2022

The Spain Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will showcase the quaint region of Murcia in Spain until February 23 during the Murcia Week with events aimed at highlighting the region’s many offerings and commercial prospects.

Bringing to life Murcia’s business, lifestyle, cultural, tourism, and gastronomic potential at Dubai Expo 2020, the showcase will see the participation of forty companies from sectors as diverse as footwear and agricultural technology, water conservation and heritage.

Over the three days, visitors can experience an array of cultural and gastronomic experiences and performances including food tastings, flamenco shows by Carlos Piñana and 'showcooking' by José Miguel Cremades, from Grupo Cangreja, and Juan Guillamón, from Alma Mater restaurant.

The event will be attended by Valle Miguelez – Regional Minister of Industry and Spokesman at Region of Murcia and the Spanish Ambassador - Inigo de Palacio, as well as other Murcia authorities.

“We cannot think of a better place to showcase Murcia than Dubai Expo 2020 where the world is gathering in one place even in the face of the challenges to travel, that we are facing today. This is the chance to take our beautiful region and all it has to offer and put it on the world stage, at a time when such events are almost unheard of elsewhere in the world,” said Valle Miguelez, Regional Minister of Industry and Spokesman at Region of Murcia

Being the main producer of bluefin tuna in the entire European Union and a leader in exports to Japan, a country that consumes half of the bluefin tuna in the world, Murcia will host a special exhibition on February 22, to demonstrate its high-quality Bluefin Tuna.

Bluefin Tuna is one of the region’s most important exports with 70 percent of the produce by the Region of Murcia destined for Japan because of its high-quality meat. Last year alone more than 5,200 tons of bluefin tuna were produced for a value of 64.2 million euros, which reflects the weight that this product has within the aquaculture activity that closed 2020 with a total production of 8,524 tons and more than 83 million euros.

Aquaculture presents a format that is totally necessary and complementary to the traditional fishing model, which allows sourcing fish in a way that is profitable and safe for our health and the environment.

"This is a unique showcase for our business network, which can publicize the work of the industries, products and technology we offer in the region, and also showing to the International community that we are an ideal destination to invest in. Many of the businesses we are bringing are SMEs who would greatly benefit from this visibility and access to this international commercial hub,” said Miguelez.

The programme of the events has been prepared alongside the Regional Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment, as well as the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia. – TradeArabia News Service
