Air Arabia plane lands in Ahmedabad after engine fails

NEW DELHI, June 7, 2022

An Air Arabia flight from Chittagong (Bangladesh) to the UAE capital Abu Dhabi was diverted to Ahmedabad in India's Gujarat state when one of the plane's engines failed mid-flight, according to senior Indian aviation officials.

The incident took place on Monday night. None of the passengers or crew members were injured and the aircraft landed safely, said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials.

DGCA is conducting a probe into the incident.

Since twin-engine aircraft can land safely on one engine, flight 3L-062 operated on Airbus A320 (A6-AOT) did so by diverting to Ahmedabad where it landed safely, said a report.

The flight landed at the Ahmedabad airport at approximately 9.25pm on Monday after one of the engines "stalled" mid-air and the engine failure warning came on, they added. Due to the warning sign, the crew had to make a "mayday" call and the aircraft was allowed to conduct an emergency landing at the airport, the officials noted.
