A high-level Australian delegation met officials of Enpark, the energy and environment park and a member of Tecom Investments, to explore sustainable development co-operation and knowledge transfer between the two countries.

Chief minister Jon Stanhope and Kym Hewett, the Australian Consul-General in Dubai, were part of the delegation.

The Australian government has made significant progress in recent times enforcing the reduction of water usage during peak hours.

In addition, the government of Canberra, Australia’s capital, will soon roll out power stations for electric vehicles with the aim of encouraging citizens to switch to more energy friendly transport.

Stanhope met Ali bin Towaih, executive director of Enpark, and Sougata Nandi, director of Enpark’s Sustainable Energy and Environment Division, to gain a deeper understanding of the cluster’s project as well as Tecom Investments sustainable development initiatives.

“This was an important opportunity for Enpark to exchange ideas and gain a better understanding of the progress achieved by the Australian State with regards to the adoption of new sources of energy, energy and water conservation programs, and the adoption of laws to compel a wiser usage of natural resources in order to better preserve the environment,' Bin Towaih said.

'It was also an opportunity to extend an invitation to Australian companies to join Enpark’s clean technology cluster and work with us to help create a sustainable future,' he added.

Bin Towaih welcomed the invitation by Stanhope to visit Canberra in the near future to witness the city’s achievements in sustainable development projects as well as the regulations and policies already in place.

The visit came after the publication of the first 'Sustainable Development Report' in the region by Enpark, which highlighted the sustainable initiatives launched by Tecom and its achievements with regards to water and electricity savings.-TradeArabia News Service
