SWPC announces financial close of $480m Al Haer sewage project

Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has announced the financial close of the Al Haer sewage treatment plant located in Riyadh, which is being set up at an investment of SAR1.8 billion ($480 million).

The project will be developed by a consortium led by Belgian group Besix, one of the world's leading international contractors, along with major Saudi utility groups Miahona and Marafiq.

On completion, the Al Haer ISTP will have a treatment capacity of 200,000 cu m per day, complemented by a 32 km integrated treated sewage transmission system capable of transporting up to 400,000 cu m daily.

Additionally, a pumping station and storage tanks with a capacity of 200,000 cu m/day will be constructed to enhance the efficient and sustainable utilization of treated sewage across various sectors.

Speaking on the occasion, CEO Engineer Khalid Al Qureshi said Al-Haer project is one of the strategic initiatives launched in collaboration with the private sector.

"It will be executed under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model, ensuring long-term operational efficiency and service continuity," he added.

According to SWPC, the project marks a significant milestone in advancing Saudi Arabia’s environmental sustainability objectives and improving quality of life.

The commercial operation of the project will commence in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the agreement spanning 25 years to guarantee sustained service delivery and effectiveness.-TradeArabia News Service
