Saudi Binladin Group (SBG) has announced that it has begun redeveloping the King Fahd Sports City Stadium in Riyadh as the kingdom expands its sports infrastructure ahead of the 2034 FIFA World Cup. 

A unit of Binladin International Holding Group, SBG is a multinational construction conglomerate and a major infrastructure builder headquartered in Jeddah.

The project involves the modernisation of the stadium to meet international standards for major sporting events, including increasing its seating capacity to about 70,200 spectators.

SBG said the redevelopment includes upgrades to the stadium's infrastructure and facilities aimed at improving operational efficiency and enhancing the experience for spectators, athletes and event organisers.

The upgraded venue is being prepared to meet FIFA requirements for hosting matches during the 2034 World Cup, which Saudi Arabia is set to stage, stated the top construction conglomerate.

The redevelopment forms part of Saudi Arabia's wider push to expand and modernise sports infrastructure under Vision 2030, as the kingdom invests in facilities to support its growing sports and entertainment sector.

SBG said the project incorporates modern construction standards and infrastructure designed to support the hosting of major domestic and international sporting events.

The company said it is drawing on its experience in large-scale construction and infrastructure projects to deliver the redevelopment of one of Riyadh's landmark sporting venues, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
