Abu Dhabi is set to host its inaugural Water & Power Week in December, bringing together policymakers, investors, utilities, technology companies and international organisations to discuss water security, infrastructure investment and innovation.
The Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week (ADWPW) – Special Water Edition is being organised by the Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi under the patronage of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
The programme will include three main summits covering policy and regulation, finance and investment, and technology and innovation.
ADWPW will kick off on December 8 and run until December 10 at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, alongside the United Nations Water Conference 2026, which will be co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal.
Discussions will focus on regulatory frameworks for water resilience, financing opportunities for water infrastructure and the adoption of technologies aimed at improving efficiency and sustainability, said the event organisers.
The week will also include the fourth Abu Dhabi Water & Power Majlis, technology showcases and announcements of strategic partnerships.
The Department of Energy said it would launch a platform focused on developing practical solutions to challenges facing the water sector, as well as a Youth Water Program in cooperation with academic institutions. The programme is intended to involve young people in developing water-sector solutions, it stated.
An Abu Dhabi Pavilion will feature 55 interactive stations highlighting the emirate's development of its water system, from its heritage to its current infrastructure and future plans.
Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, the undersecretary at the Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi, said the event would seek to strengthen cooperation, investment and the deployment of technologies aimed at improving the resilience of the water sector.
"Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week will support global efforts to strengthen water resilience and accelerate the development of practical solutions that respond to growing demand and future challenges. By bringing policymakers, investors, industry leaders and innovators together in Abu Dhabi, we aim to strengthen collaboration, support investment and accelerate the adoption of technologies and solutions that can be deployed and scaled," stated Al Rumaithi.
"Through the week, we seek to deliver tangible outcomes that contribute to a more efficient and resilient water sector, support sustainable economic growth, and strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a global centre for collaboration and innovation across water and energy," he added.
Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Obaidli, director-general of regulatory affairs at the department, said water security was central to Abu Dhabi's long-term resilience and economic development.
"Our approach is to plan ahead and bring together governance, infrastructure, investment, and innovation as part of an integrated system that can respond to growing demand and changing conditions. Abu Dhabi Water & Power Week will build on this approach by bringing together international partners around practical solutions that can strengthen water resilience, support the continuity of essential services, and enable sustainable economic growth," he stated.
The event is aligned with the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 and UAE Energy Strategy 2050, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
