Aggreko has restored critical cooling capacity at a Dutch gas manufacturing facility after a fire destroyed the site’s cooling towers, helping the plant maintain production during a summer heatwave.
The fire, caused by an electrical disconnection, destroyed
the facility’s cooling systems, which were essential for safe and efficient
operations.
Temperatures at the
time approached 40 deg C, increasing the urgency of restoring cooling capacity
and avoiding extended production downtime.
The gas manufacturer contacted energy and temperature
control provider Aggreko for an emergency solution tailored to the site’s
requirements. The system had to operate within a designated safety zone and
integrate with gas detection systems.
Working with the plant’s technical team, Aggreko designed
and deployed a temporary system comprising four high-capacity cooling towers
and eight pumps.
The equipment was
connected using customised 12-inch hose configurations to accommodate site
restrictions and was powered through a transformer supplying high-voltage
electricity.
“Speed and expertise were absolutely essential to resolving
this incident,” said a spokesperson for the gas manufacturer. “We are very
thankful to Aggreko for their swift response and professionalism in a highly
challenging set of circumstances. The company’s ability to assess what was
required and rapidly deploy a bespoke cooling system to mitigate disruption
meant we could maintain operations and output. The trust we have built with
Aggreko through a strong and reliable partnership meant that when these fundamentals
were threatened, we were highly confident the situation could be quickly
resolved – and so it proved.”
Despite the work taking place during extreme heat, the
project was completed on schedule, allowing the plant to continue operating
during peak summer demand.
“This project was a clear demonstration of our team’s
ability to deliver under pressure and in challenging conditions,” said Koen
Babonnick, PCR Specialist at Aggreko. “Being able to deploy at speed and scale
is vital to effective emergency response in these situations.”
Babonnick said restoring the cooling systems helped the
facility avoid significant production downtime and financial losses.
