Acwa Power concludes high-profile participation at Dubai expo

DUBAI, October 28, 2018

Acwa Power, a global leader in water desalination and power generation, has successfully wrapped up its presence at the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (Wetex 2018), that took place from October 23-25 in Dubai, UAE.

During the event, Ishaq Al Hammadi, general manager, Acwa Power UAE, and Abdulhameed Al Muhaidib, executive managing director, Noor Energy 1, of Acwa Power, escorted HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, on a tour of the company platform to showcase the displayed projects.

Over the three-day event, Acwa Power highlighted a number of its key renewable and desalination projects that reinforced its position as a leading sustainability enabler in the region, complementing the theme of Wetex 2018, ‘At the forefront of sustainability.’

Al Hammadi said: “Acwa Power is at the heart of the changing energy landscape and we are committed to collaborating with our partners and stakeholders to influence meaningful and sustainable impact on the industry, people and communities and the environment. Our presence during this prestigious event showcased the work we are currently doing in this sphere as well as outlined our goals for the future of sustainability.”

The company also delivered a strong message regarding investment in youth and talent in the sector. Ahmed Al Sudais, vice president of Human Capital at Acwa Power, participated in a panel discussion “Building Human Capital for the Clean Energy Sector,” with fellow industry leaders, to share his insights on training and education needed to address the growing talent requirements to operate and drive the industry.

In addition, Acwa Power experts were invited to conduct a range of industry-related seminars over the course of the event.

Javier Lopez Carvajal, renewable energy director, discussed the importance of energy storage while Meriem Bellizim, business development senior manager at Acwa Power, spoke on women empowerment in the energy sector. Thomas Altmann, vice president of Innovation and Water Technology at Acwa Power, elaborated on the importance of low carbon desalination and Jose Barragan Jimenez, executive manager – CSP, shared details on the Noor Energy 1 plant and the technology and optimisation behind its planning.

Trainees from The Higher Institute for Water and Power Technologies (HIWPT) also attended the event to share their learning and training experience with visitors to the ACWA Power platform. HIWPT is an Acwa Power funded corporate social responsibility initiative which aims to equip young Saudi nationals with the skills needed to enter power generation and water desalination fields.

Acwa Power was also the Diamond Sponsor for Wetex 2018 - an event dedicated to showcasing the latest solutions in conventional and renewable energy, water, sustainability, and conservation. It is a platform for companies to meet decision-makers, investors, buyers and interested to highlight technologies, discuss challenges and forge partnerships.
