RTA awards Dubai internal roads contract

DUBAI, November 25, 2018

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract for the construction of internal roads at Al Khawaneej 2 network spanning 77 km, comprising 68 km of single roads and 9 km of collector dual carriageways.

This comes as part of the implementation of the five-year plan endorsed by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to construct internal roads in several residential areas of Dubai.

The announcement was made during a session chaired by Mattar Al Tayer, the director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors.

"The construction of internal roads at Al Khawaneej 2 stems from RTA’s commitment towards improving the infrastructure of Dubai’s residential areas, which covers road construction, street lighting and rainwater drainage systems," stated Al Tayer.

"Such works are a necessity due to the demographic and urban expansion, and contributes to the general welfare and happiness of the people in the emirate," he added.

The scope of work includes the construction of internal roads along with the associated infrastructure works such as rainwater drainage network, enhancements to the electricity and water networks, and street lighting.

Al Tayer said RTA was also progressing in the construction of internal roads for the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Est project at Oud Al Mateena 1 which covers the construction of internal roads extending 7 km and linking them with the surrounding roads network to ensure safe and smooth access to and from nearby areas.

"The project, also includes street lights, roadside parkings and pedestrian walkways, and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2019," he added.

The RTA chief said work was currently under way on the initial phase of the internal roads project at Sama Al Jaddaf extending 12 km.

Under this project, several junctions will be constructed, including two signalised junctions and street lighting works.

It is aimed at improving the roads network in the area and link it with the surrounding roads such as Al Khail Road to the south and Sheikh Rashid Street to the north, besides ensuring smooth traffic flow in the area.

"RTA has also completed internal roads projects at Nad Al Sheba 4 and Hatta. Works included the construction of 56 km roads; 50 km at Nad Al Sheba 4 (District 282) and 6 km at Nad Al Sheba 1 (District 618). It also covered utility works such as street lighting, and rainwater drainage systems, said Al Tayer.

"The internal roads Project at Makan Community, Hatta which has 346 houses built by Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Est, included the construction of 8 km internal roads, car parks, pavements and street-lighting," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
