Acciona, Thales, Alkhorayef in race for big Saudi water project

Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (Zatca), in collaboration with National Centre for Privatization & PPP (NCP), has announced that 54 top developers have expressed interest in a key Saudi Land Ports Water and Sewage Treatment Plants Project.
The project will come up on 10 land ports across the kingdom - Al Batha, Salwa, Al Khafji, Al Raqi, Jadidat Arar, Al Hadithah, Halat Ammar, Al Durrah, Al Wadiah, and Empty Quarter, stated NCP in a statement.
Of these 54 developers, 20 are major global industry players including Spanish infrastructure giants - Acciona Construccion; FCC Aqualia; GS Inima Environment; French utility majors Thales and Saur; Swiss group Pini; US-based Tamasuk Holding as well as Japanese group Marubeni, Singapore's Meinhardt and Metito Utilities Limited (United Kingdom).
Among the regional players, in the fray are Bahrain's Lamar Holding, KAMS Global and Abrdn Investcorp Infrastructure Investments; Egyptian groups - Orascom; Hassan Allam Hoding and DesalEgypt for Water Desalination and Treatment; and Turkish groups - Alke İnşaat Sanayi Ticaret and Turmaks İnsaat, along with Kuwait's Alghanim international; UAE-based Contrax International DMCC.
The project will be tendered under a Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Maintain-Transfer (DBFOMT) model, with a contract duration of 15 years, including the construction period, stated NCP.
The project encompasses the design, construction, expansion, and refurbishment of plants and related assets, including networks. Additionally, it will include the supervision of the construction activities, it added.
According to NCP, the top Saudi bidders comprise Al Bawani; Al Gihaz Holding; Al Kifah Holding; Al Yamama Company; Al-Ayuni Investment & Contracting Company; Al Rajhi Building and Constructions; Alfanar; Alkawther; Alkhorayef Water & Power Technologies; Alkobraish Investment and Construction; Alrawaf Company; Arabtech Jardaneh and Partners for Engineering Consultancy; Asr Taqa Contracting Company; BEC Arabia Buhur for Investment; Civil Works Company; Consolidated Contracting Solutions; Erada Advanced Projects; Fas Energy & Infrastructure; Gulf Consolidated Contractors; Haji Abdullah Alireza & Company as well as International Water Distribution; Miahona and Mohammed Ali Al Swailem Trading & Contracting (Masco).
The list also includes Mowah Company; Nesma Company; Rio Arabia For Contracting; Samama Company for Operation & Management; Samaya Investment Company; Sener Engineering and Systems and his partner for Engineering Consulting Tatweer Building Company; Twaik M. Al Otaibi for Contracting; Urbas Middle East and Washnah.
Accordng to Saudi NCP, the scope of work for the winning bidder includes design, construction, operation and maintenance of water and sewage treatment plants at 10 land ports in Saudi Arabia.
In addition, the work involves overseeing the daily operations of the plants and related assets, management of network operations, recording and reporting on operations, and ensuring alternative water and sewage treatment supply in case of interruption.
Furthermore, it includes the performance of preventive maintenance for plants, networks, and related assets, cleaning of civil structures and plants, provision of spare parts and replacements, recording and reporting of maintenance, execution of lifecycle replacements and repairs, and monitoring of maintenance activities, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
