Alba workshop discusses drop in prices

MANAMA, September 20, 2015

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), one of the world’s leading aluminium smelters, recently held a special workshop aimed to discuss the challenges posed by the significant drop in London Metal Exchange (LME) prices and physical premiums.

The workshop, under the title ‘Market Downturn’, was held for the company’s executives, directors and managers, and was led by Alba’s chief executive officer Tim Murray, said a statement from the company.

This workshop also focused on fast-action on cost reduction roadmaps, it said.

Murray stressed on the importance of safety, cost control and productivity improvements, it added.

Throughout the workshop, individual departmental goals and roadmaps were reviewed by the CEO, who later opened the floor for discussion, said the statement.

Murray said: “Alba is facing difficult LME market conditions as well as the impact of rising natural gas prices. Alba must reinvent itself and accelerate its efforts to remain cost competitive.” – TradeArabia News Service
