BIX launches new submarine cable system

Manama, April 3, 2014

The Bahrain Internet Exchange (BIX) has announced the launch of its new submarine cable system TGN GC, which will connect the kingdom and other Gulf countries to India and the world.

The project, which has been dormant for more than two year, due to management difficulties, will prove to be a positive step forward for the kingdom and its future developments in telecom services, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The newly-elected board, chaired by Brigadier Mansoor Al Hajeri, aims to generate ways in which BIX can utilise the TATA cable and dramatically improve communications infrastructure by increasing speed, bandwidth and capacity.

"Minister of State for Telecommunications Affairs Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and the board have spent numerous months trying to solve previously inherited problems that have proved to be extremely costly with no financial returns," Brigadier Al Hajeri said.

"We are therefore pleased to announce that the TATA cable is now being launched and is connecting from BIX NOC in Juffair to Mumbai providing Internet service to all our customers," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
