Sony launches new Blu-ray home theatre

Dubai, August 28, 2010

Sony Gulf, the regional arm of consumer electronics giant Sony Corporation, has unveiled its latest 5.1 channel 3D-enabled Blu-ray home theatre systems.

The home theatre systems BDV-IZ1000W and BDV-E970W can play 3D content from Blu-ray via the latest 3D-enabled Bravia HDTVs.

The 5.1 channel surround systems feature Blu-ray Disc playback, DVD upscaling, the award winning XrossMediaBar (XMB) on-screen menu and Internet streaming, allowing access to a wide range of on-demand content and the latest cinematic technologies that allow consumers to experience the ultimate entertainment in their living rooms.

The first all-in-one home cinema systems, the two models from Sony can play high-definition 3D content from Blu-ray disc, and can also access online video entertainment from the Bravia Internet video platform.

With both models, there is a whole world of free, on-demand videos to explore from video-sharing websites such as YouTube, Dailymotion and Blip. It also eliminates the need to connect to a PC or watch movies on a small computer screen since latest videos can be accessed as soon as they are uploaded real-time and streamed full-screen content direct to the Bravia LCD TV.

The home theatre systems also include entertainment database browser by Sony to access disc cover art, actor, and production information, as well as IP content noise reduction technology and precision cinema HD upscaling to improve standard definition and web video quality.

Both systems are also DLNA (digital living network alliance) certified, enabling the system to stream content from a wide range of external devices that can be controlled with their own universal remote control or with an iPod touch or iPhone.

Additionally, users with an iPhone can control home entertainment using a free application that can be downloaded from the Apple App Store. The application allows an iPhone to function as a remote control and the ability to access a Blu-ray disc’s details such as jacket artwork, actor, and production information as well as search for additional video clips online.

The BDV-IZ1000W and BDV-E970W are equipped with Sony’s S-Master digital amplifier and both deliver 1000W power output.

The BDV-IZ1000W delivers the full cinema experience via five ultra slim speakers, using a virtual 7.1 wireless rear speaker system, while with the BDV-E970W, a real 7.1 set-up is also possible with the wireless upgrade kit WAHT-SBP2.

The BDV-E970W comes with four floor-standing main speakers for front and rear, left and right channels, a high-power subwoofer and a centre speaker as standard.

Strengthening its breadth of innovative devices supporting the 3D home theatre, Sony has also introduced two new home audio solutions offering 3D capability, the HT-CT350 and HT-CT150 3.1 channel sound bars, offering consumers flexible solutions for a holistic Sony 3D experience.

Simplifying audio and video signal transfer, the new models feature 3D pass-through with HDMI repeater (three inputs/ one output), and standby pass-through for audio and video devices connected via HDMI.

The 400 watt total system power (100 watts x 3 channels + 100 watts subwoofer) HT-CT350 is designed to match Sony’s 2010 Bravia televisions and includes a bracket that attaches it directly to over 40 TV sets either via a wall mount or the table top stand.

HT-CT150 offers 340 watts of total system power (85 watts x 3 channels + 85 watts sub) and features a design that matches Sony’s 2010 32-inch Bravia HD TVs.

Both channel sound bar models support ‘lossless’ linear pulse code modulation (LPCM) Blu-ray Disc audio via the HDMI input. They also feature Bravia Sync™ for control of compatible devices from a single remote, Sony’s Digital Media Port for iPod (iPod cradle sold separately), and two digital audio inputs (one coax and one optical).

Sony Blu-ray home theatre systems BDV-IZ1000 and BDV-E970W and the HT-CT350 and HT-CT150 3.1 channel sound bars are currently available at Jumbo Electronics and all other major retail electronics outlets in the UAE, a statement said. – TradeArabia News Service
