Paribas names new UAE head

Dubai, June 11, 2008

BNP Paribas has appointed Philippe Aroyo as head of territory for the UAE. This appointment is part of a strategic plan to strengthen the bank’s presence and client franchise in the region.

Aroyo has worked at BNP Paribas since 1989 and started his career as a senior economist. More recently he was head of territory for Kuwait. In Kuwait he was responsible for establishing the first foreign bank in the country and developed the business to reach 40 employees in a short span of three years.

Aroyo has had several important positions throughout his career in corporate and investment banking, especially in BNP Paribas India and Senegal.

Aroyo’s mandate will be to ensure that BNP Paribas’ client needs are well addressed and that the bank pursues its expansion in the promising UAE market. He will be responsible for accelerating the growth of BNP Paribas’ business with an emphasis on extending client coverage and intensifying links with the UAE business community, with whom the bank has already had strong relationships.

His regional experience will be invaluable in boosting BNP Paribas' presence and market share in the country.

“We have a very high regard for Aroyo’s professionalism, and are very confident that he will be successful in building high level relationships in this important market for BNP Paribas. Philippe brings to the table broad-based banking experience as well as a proven track record of success in developing our business in the region,” said BNP Paribas GCC regional director Jean-Christophe Durand. – TradeArabia News Service
