Pearl-Qatar to deploy fire fighting equipment
Doha, July 3, 2012
The Pearl-Qatar, an innovative mixed-use development coming up in Doha, recently conducted training sessions for its staff in the use of fire fighting equipment as part of its commitment to safety and security on the island.
Pearl Qatar said it plans to deploy a hi-tech mobile water supply system developed by Hytrans Fire System that has been designed to pump water from any open water supply to fight a fire.
The system includes two Mercedes Axor hook arm trucks, a HydroSub 900, Powerfoam and portable water supply equipment and power supply.
High ranking officials from the Civil Defense Authority took part in the training sessions with team members from Glitter and The Shield, both fully owned subsidiaries of United Development Company (UDC), master developer of The Pearl-Qatar. The Island’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) officers also participated.
“This system is ideal for efficient fire fighting in a water-bound environment like The Pearl- Qatar,” remarked Brigadier Abdullah Muhammed Al Suwaidi from Civil Defense Authority.
“In major fire emergencies, the main issue is always water flow and pressure, access, time and distance. Therefore, it is always necessary to be able to pump from open water sources and this system allows us to do that,” he stated.
Saeed Al Sulaiti, the general manager of Glitter, The Shield and HSE at The Pearl-Qatar, said the new system was part of UDC’s commitment to create and maintain a safe, secure and clean environment on the island.
“This system can pump thousands of liters of water to an area when needed in an emergency. By deploying the latest technology The Pearl-Qatar is delivering on its commitment to ensure the safety and security of residents and visitors to the Island,” Al Sulaiti explained.
Two fire engines are already stationed on the Island and the water supply system will be stored in close proximity in case of emergency, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
