Drake wins Mall of the Emirates MEP contract
Dubai, February 3, 2014
Drake & Scull International (DSI), a leader in construction, has signed a contract worth Dh110 million ($30 million) to execute complete MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) works for the redevelopment of Mall of the Emirates in Dubai.
The contract was awarded by Khansaheb Civil Engineering, who is the main contractor for the project.
DSI will procure, install, test and commission all MEP works at the iconic shopping mall, to be completed by 2015. Located on Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road, Mall of the Emirates recently announced its multi-stage redevelopment project at an estimated cost of Dh1 billion under the theme ‘Evolution 2015.’
The redevelopment, which will include a new fashion district, luxury retail, and sports and leisure precinct, alongside unique dining concepts and an expansion of its cinemas, will be undertaken in phases with work on Phase 1 already underway.
Mall of the Emirates has been ranked as the most lucrative mall in the Middle East in terms of sales per square foot, and seventh overall in the world according to the International Council of Shopping Centres.
Khaldoun Tabari, DSI vice chairman and CEO, said: “The new contract for the redevelopment of Mall of the Emirates underscores our proven track record in offering specialized MEP services for large scale shopping malls.”
“We are pleased to be chosen by the client and Khansaheb for the execution of the MEP works on this prestigious landmark. DSI is well established in the UAE as market leaders in the Engineering business and we will continue our efforts to help shape Dubai and the UAE’s skyline.
“With our expertise in MEP works and general contracting, cutting edge technologies and vast resources, DSI is well-positioned to undertake significant construction and infrastructure projects as Dubai gears up to host the 2020 World Expo,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
