The new road .... to help ease the traffic flow from Discovery Gardens.

RTA opens vital road sector in Dubai

DUBAI, March 1, 2015

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened a new sector of the first Al Khail Road linking the Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) with Discovery Gardens as part of Phase Two of the Parallel Roads Improvement project.

The new sector complements the first segment opened last October, marking the opening of Qarn Al Sabkha Road linking Sheikh Zayed Road at the JLT junction (5.5 Interchange) with the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road near Al Houdh round about, said a statement from RTA.

Elaborating on the project, Maitha bin Udai, the chief executive of RTA Traffic and Roads Agency, said: "The opening of this vital road sector will ease the mainstream traffic flow from Discovery Gardens heading towards Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road."

"It will also offer a new ingress and egress to Discovery Gardens in addition to the existing entrance/exit linking the district with the Sheikh Zayed Road," she stated.

According to her, the RTA has also erected new traffic lights, which will be controlled on the basis of the vehicle density in the area.

The existing light signal, she stated, will be synchronised with the traffic flow on the bridges constructed at the JLT over the new underpass (Qarn Al Sabkha Road) linking Sheikh Zayed Road and Mohamed bin Zayed Road.

"An internal road at the Discovery Gardens would be constructed to meet the needs of residents and visitors of the area, and enhance the existing roads network. A new signallised junction will be installed to streamline the traffic flow and a new roundabout will also be opened in the neighbourhood," noted Maitha.

The project is part of the Parallel Roads Improvement plan in Dubai, and RTA’s masterplan for upgrading roads, bridges, crossings and tunnels with the aim of easing the traffic flow in various parts of the emirate, said the statement.

It is also manifestation of RTA’s strategic plan for upgrading the infrastructure of roads and mass transit systems in Dubai, and developing integrated solutions for roads as well as land and marine transit networks, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
