Al Ansab sewage treatment plant ... a big win for Doosan.

Doosan wins $90m Oman sewage plant deal

MUSCAT, July 6, 2015

Korean conglomerate Doosan Heavy Industries has won a contract to undertake Phase Two expansion of Al Ansab sewage treatment plant (STP) in Muscat, Oman, at a cost of $90 million, a report said.

The Haya Water project entails the construction of a plant capable of processing 50,000 tonnes of wastewater a day, reported the Oman Observer.

As per the deal, Doosan will be responsible for construction and pilot operation of the project, besides supply of equipment.

Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction Company is one of the largest Korean heavy industrial companies. Established in 1962, its business ranges from nuclear power plants, thermal power plants, turbines and generators, to desalination plants, castings, forgings and construction.

US-headquartered global multi-disciplinary consultancy services firm Aecom is providing the engineering design for Phase Two of the STP project, which is scheduled for completion by 2017.

Aecom’s design incorporates flat-sheet MBR (membrane bioreactor) technology to degrade organic matter and remove solids, including harmful bacteria, from the water, allowing it to be reused for irrigation.

On completion, the plant will be one of the largest flat-sheet MBR facilities in the world, capable of treating up to 22 million gallons of sewage per day, the report added.
