RESIDENTIAL AREA EXPANSION

Shamal project ... second major win for Salini Impregilo.

Salini Impregilo wins $337m Qatar infrastructure project

DOHA, July 12, 2015

Salini Impregilo, an Italian construction and civil engineering specialist, said a consortium led by the company has won a €300-million ($337 million) from the Qatar's Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to build primary urban infrastructure for a residential area near capital Doha.

Shamal, located approximately 100 km from Doha, in the extreme northern area of Qatar, has great expansion possibilities, said a statement from the Italian firm. The entire area for residential development, measuring 1,043 hectares, is connected to Doha through the "North Road".

It is part of the local roads and drainage programme (LR&DP).

Salini Impregilo, along with its consortium partner Bin Omran of Qatar, won the project beating major competitor consortiums from the Gulf region, Asia and the US, the statement added.

The scope of work includes implementation of Package One of the project, which covers 25 per cent of the area to be developed, and which also includes the roads and infrastructure of the Al Zubara district in the western area, the northern area of the central district of Abu Al Dholouf and the southern area of Al Shamal, but also the planning and design of the microtunneling and of the water system for irrigating the green areas.

This is the second major win for Salini Impregilo in Qatar after the company had clinched the €770-million ($865 million) Al Khor football stadium contract last week.-TradeArabia News Service
