District cooling 'vital to Arab world'

DUBAI, September 7, 2015

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has called upon the real estate developers in the Arab world to realise the importance of district cooling in saving operational and maintenance costs and preserving natural resources.

One of the world’s largest district cooling services providers, Empower said these developers are fully convinced that time has come to shift from conventional chilling systems to district cooling that is environment-friendly and less energy consuming, as well as ensures high quality of air conditioning for the end user.

Speaking on the eve of Cityscape, Ahmad Bin Shafar, the chief executive of Empower, appealed to the participating companies to put district cooling on top of their priority list while launching new projects.

"District Cooling has become the integral part of green building concept in the Middle East, promoted by local governments," he stated.

"Empower has effectively integrated Green Building guidelines with district cooling, and we have even built our plants as per these guidelines. Developers should pay special attention to adopt environment-friendly cooling systems so as to accelerate global initiatives on sustainability and CO2 reduction," he added.

Bin Shafar said Arab countries have the responsibility to foster district cooling technology and encourage its usage in more areas. "Most of the GCC countries are on roads to shifting to district cooling, with the UAE leading the way," he noted.

"Empower’s district cooling systems provide effective and efficient means of air conditioning. Water is cooled in central plants and distributed through a network of piping systems to individual customers in different buildings," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
