Empower to host inaugural district cooling workshop

DUBAI, November 12, 2016

UAE-based Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) is set to host the inaugural certified workshop during preparatory day of the International District Cooling Conference 2016 on Sunday (November 13).

The workshop is being held alongside the seventh edition of the conference being hosted in co-ordination with the International District Energy Association (Idea).

Also, a group of companies from around the world will showcase their latest achievements and advanced technologies in district energy in the trade exhibition that will be inaugurated tomorrow, said the statement from Empower.

The conference will continue until November 15 with a rich program of presentations and meetings.

The workshop, which takes place at Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai, will focus on the best practices in district cooling system design, operation and optimisation, and their green applications.

The distinguished model of Dubai will be dressed in details via the example of Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence that is playing a leadership role in working closely with objectives of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), it stated.

Relevantly, Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa) and Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), are sponsoring around 100 students from major UAE universities to attend the workshops and conference.

Leading engineers, architects and senior experts will gather to address the key issues in system design in matter of energy and water conservation, thermal energy storage, their advantages and best practices, and the Delta T management in buildings.

Industry experts will also provide current technology advances focused on control systems and data usage to optimise system and customer efficiency performance, and on leveraging technology and innovation to adopt in the local markets.

Empower chief executive Ahmad Bin Shafar said it was a matter of pride for the company to host all the Idea members and guests in Dubai for another thought-provoking edition of the district cooling conference.

"Throughout three days, we will discuss the climate question and the way we can contribute in turning our industry in a green field. Preparatory day will be dedicated to discuss the best practices in the district energy sector with several well-known experts and specialists. We are happy to be part of this," he added.

Some of the topics to be discussed on the preparatory day are developing ways on how to ensure a smooth transition to a low-carbon and green economy through the exchange of knowledge and perspectives from around the world.

Industry experts from many of the largest and most efficient district cooling systems will share practical design and operational insights drawn from actual operating systems serving mission-critical customers like world-famous cancer research hospitals, urban financial centers and data farms.

Rob Thornton, the president and chief executive of Idea, said: "We are bringing together engineers, officials and businessmen from around the globe to present fruitful experiences with proven results and come up with quality solutions and applications to Dubai and GCC environments."

"The day promises valuable engagement and dialogue with professionals  that know best the district cooling industry and the ways to optimize it in order to make more eco-friendly and at the same time more efficient and profitable," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
