Muraba commissions design of DIFC glass pavilion

DUBAI, February 10, 2018

Muraba Properties, the developer behind Palm Jumeirah’s Muraba Residences, has commissioned the design of a striking glass pavilion in Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the leading international financial hub and destination for lifestyle, arts and culture.

Reflecting the company's philosophy of creating extraordinary, singular spaces, the pavilion was conceptualised by RCR Arquitectes, Pritzker-prize laureates and designers of Muraba Residences.

Nestled in the heart of DIFC’s Gate Village Courtyard, the installation consists of three ‘floating’ glass fins that were hand-crafted in the distinctive architectural style of Muraba Residences.

Over the course of the installation – open for the public to experience until April 2018 – a series of three films will be screened on the remarkable glass surfaces, the first playing throughout February.

Created through a partnership with international filmmaker Massimiliano Siccardi, the trio of cinematic pieces are together entitled “The White Tear Planet” and become more and more artistic in nature as the project progresses.

Siccardi and his team were inspired by their understanding of Muraba, with their interpretation stemming from the discovery of how light brings the building to life and has played such a crucial role in its inception and design.

“Each of the films within 'The White Tear Planet' unfolds around a central theme: the first is matter (substance), second geometries, and third artistic transposition. The series is, above all, an emotional and dreamlike transposition of our encounter with Muraba. For our first film, the matter or substance concept reflects the discovery of this planet, how details transform into liquid that flows, transports us into the waters, the wind, through the palm trees that are perfectly silhouetted against the deep blue,” said Siccardi.

Speaking of the installation, the founder of Muraba Properties, Ibrahim Al Ghurair said, “With the help of RCR Arquitectes and our highly creative Italian filmmaking counterparts, we have pushed the boundaries of design with a contemporary and interactive space, and hope to offer insight into our values."

'Our approach of creating environments that have a certain lightness to them, an emphasis on materiality, and that offer a universal artistic experience, is mirrored in this installation," he added.

Muraba Residences consists of 50 apartments and penthouses on Palm Jumeirah. With architectural excellence at its core, cutting-edge design integral to the concept, and attention to detail inimitable, the project offers uninterrupted views across the Dubai skyline.

Designed ‘from the inside out’, the building is a unique structure with a discrete visual aesthetic, aligned not only with its surroundings, but with a certain kind of mindset.
