Kuwait to issue RFPs for labour city project

KUWAIT CITY, August 14, 2018

Kuwait government is set to issue a request for proposals (RFPs) to all qualified bidders for the construction of a major workers' city project in South Jahra region, which on completion, will provide affordable housing for 20,000 expat workers, said a report.

The 1.02-million-sq-m South Jahra Labour City is being developed by Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) under a build, operate, and transfer (BOT) scheme in collaboration with Kuwait Municipality.

The concession agreement of the workers city project has been set at 40 years, reported Arab Times, citing Engineer Nadia Al Sheriadah, the assistant director for projects at Kuwait Municipality.

In a letter to the Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development concerning plans for operating and managing strategic projects such as the workers city, Al Sheriadah said the project was in the framework of partnership between public and private sectors based on public private partnership (PPP).

Al Sheriadah pointed out that it will be a modern workers city with all necessary infrastructure and services, in addition to an amusement park and green areas, said the report.

The contract for the project was likely to be signed by the end of this year, she added.
