India is top exporter to UAE

India, China, US and Japan have topped the list of exporting counties to the UAE in March, with a total export value of Dh24.6 billion - 60 per cent of the total value of the country's imports.

Germany, UK, Italy, Switzerland, France and Malaysia were the other countries in the list, according to a report in The Times of India.

According to preliminary statistics released by the Federal Customs Authority, the UAE's non-oil foreign trade was about Dh63 billion by the end of March 2010.

This is made of Dh40.8 billion of imports, Dh6.8 billion of exports and Dh15.4 billion worth of re-exports.

Meanwhile, the weight of the UAE's total foreign trade during the same period was 5.8 million tonnes, including 3. 7 million tonnes for imports 1.4 million tonnes for exports and 0.7 million tonnes for e-exports.

India, Iran, Iraq, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany represented 70 per cent of the total re-export value at Dh10.8 billion.

The authority said that the total value of non-oil trade with GCC states, according to preliminary figures of March 2010, amounted to Dh4.7 billion.

The shares of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait were Dh1.8 billion, Dh813 million, Dh769 million, Dh800 million and Dh542 million, respectively.
