SmartCity Malta woos Dubai investors

Dubai, May 25, 2010

Tecom Investments, a subsidairy of Dubai Holding, has launched a 30-day marketing campaign within all its business parks to promote Malta and its first overseas business park SmartCity Malta.

SmartCity, a conglomerate promoted by Tecom investments, aims to develop and manage knowledge industry townships worldwide.

The drive is aimed primarily at Tecom Business Partners in Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City and Dubai Knowledge Village, and seeks to create further awareness about the network of opportunities that SmartCity offers, said a company statement.

The campaign, “Tecom Investments’ first overseas business park - Your stepping stone to the EU and North Africa,” which runs till June 20 will highlight the benefits of operating from SmartCity Malta.

The focus is on Malta’s vision in becoming ICT centre of excellence in the Mediterranean region, as well as the potential that exists within SmartCity Malta for companies seeking to gain a presence and market share in Europe and North Africa, it added.

It also puts spotlight on the Maltese ICT and media industries and the advantages of the island’s strategic location, as well as the benefits of its European Union membership and its proximity and close commercial links with North Africa.

SmartCity Malta’s initial investment of  $300 million, makes this project the largest foreign investment initiative in the ICT sector in Malta. It is projected to generate more than 5,600 job opportunities, the statement said.

SmartCity Malta’s first building, SCM01, built on 12,000 sq m of intelligent office space, is scheduled for opening on October 10. The building will be home to international, regional and local Maltese ICT and media companies.

Once complete, SmartCity Malta will be a self sustained township that will cater to a vibrant knowledge-economy community. The project will generate a great variety of opportunities and a number of jobs in countless fields beyond the ICT and media spheres, it added.

SmartCity Malta will also feature shopping boulevards, residential areas and one km of Mediterranean Sea-front views, which will enable Ricasoli - the location of the project - to become the region’s premier business destination.-TradeArabia News Service
