Regional teams vie for Imagine Cup

MANAMA, June 2, 2015

Teams from across the region competed in a technology competition for school students yesterday (June 1).

The Imagine Cup 2015 Pan Arab Champion, hosted by Microsoft Bahrain, was held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

It was made up of three categories and included, for the first time, a games category.

“The three categories - World Citizenships, Innovation and Games - address a number of trends including accessibility, social media, physical therapy gamification and much more,” said Microsoft Bahrain in a statement.

“The World Citizenship category witnessed the highest number of projects; 13 teams came up with creative ways to utilise technology in solving present day problems for areas such as accessibility, remote physical therapy and others.

“In the Innovation category, 12 teams will be competing to secure one of the three seats to Seattle.”

“Celebrating this new entrant, Gaming, the Arab teams showed off their creative skills in developing fun-inspired projects.”

All 36 teams displayed their projects at the event, which was evaluated by a panel of judges.

The winners will be announced today and the prize for first place is $7,000 followed by $4,000 and $2,000 for the runners-up.

Participating students hailed from Algeria, Bahrain, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and the UAE. - TradeArabia News Service
