Oman Convention Centre launches hiring drive

MUSCAT, June 2, 2015

Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre (OCEC) has launched a worldwide recruitment drive to fill 50 full-time key positions in events, operations, hospitality and technology as it prepares for phase one opening in the first quarter of 2016.

OCEC will not only serve to boost Oman's image and accessibility as a tourist destination, but will also generate a significant economic stimulus and on-going revenue, said Wael Al Lawati, CEO of Omran Group, the government body that drives the investment, growth and development of tourism in the Sultanate.

"The OCEC, with its surrounding precinct, is expected to generate over $760 million in local spending during the development phases, and will create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities," said Al Lawati.

OCEC's general manager Trevor McCartney said: “As a leader in the business events industry and business development in Oman, one of the main roles of the OCEC is to power employment and commercial opportunities in this sector, driving the Sultanate towards a diversified, sustainable and prosperous economic future.”

“This recruitment campaign is very much part of our commitment to that vision and is one of many to come. We look forward to welcoming new employees to the fast-growing OCEC family and eagerly anticipate their contributions, as we look to welcome over 600,000 visitors per annum on completion,” added McCartney.

The Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre is located in its own fully integrated precinct four kilometres from Muscat International Airport.

The design of the Centre will ensure a flow of the meetings space to suit the most discerning conference and exhibition organisers. It also incorporates expansive concourse areas to enable ease of large delegations with floor to ceiling windows overlooking landscaped gardens and water features.

The Centre will feature two-tiered auditoriums to seat 3,200 and 450, while the five exhibition halls will feature 22,000 sq m of column-free exhibition space. Hall 1 will have a superior fit out, specialised acoustic treatment, advanced lighting and rigging requirements to act as a multi-purpose space for plenary sessions, concerts, performances and gala dinners on a larger scale. Halls 1 & 2 combined will seat up to 10,000.

The Centre will also include an additional 13 meeting rooms for 80-300 delegates, two well-appointed ballrooms to seat up to 2,590, 10 hospitality suites, a VIP Pavilion, a spacious food-court and a multi-storey car park with a capacity for 4,000 vehicles.

The precinct will provide the infrastructure necessary to host successful international, regional and local events and is there for the enjoyment of delegates, visitors and the local community. The precinct includes a five-star hotel linked to the Convention Centre, two four-star properties, a three-star hotel and apartments with a combined total of 1,000 rooms.

A business park and a retail shopping mall, surrounded by a nature reserve which will be a haven for Oman’s exotic birdlife, together with parklands and a wadi (valley) park, are also part of this picturesque precinct. – TradeArabia News Service
