Bahrain-wide leadership employability drive Beكن launched

HIDD, November 10, 2021

APM Terminals Bahrain with the support of the Ministry Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) has launched Beكن, a two-year programme that aims to support the logistics and maritime industry. This is done by injecting potential logistics leaders into the market and bring maritime expertise to the new generation.

The programme developed since beginning of 2021, is in line with the government’s strategy to increase employment opportunities for Bahrainis, by providing them with an opportunity to be part of Khalifa Bin Salman Port’s (KBSP) success story of transforming the nation’s maritime and logistics sector and contributing to Bahrain's economic development.

On the occasion, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed said: “We are pleased to see APM Terminals Bahrain taking on this initiative which embraces what Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 sets to achieve and translating it into action by building Bahrainis’ employability skills and creating attractive career opportunities which in turn improves productivity and drives economic growth.

“This programme is also an exemplary model of the government and private sector acting as partners in creating productive, higher wage employment for Bahrainis in the logistics and maritime sector.”

Maureen Bannerman, CEO/Managing Director, APM Terminals Bahrain, said: “The maritime and logistics industry, with its myriad of different functions and specialised skill sets, is well-positioned to contribute towards Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and towards serving the kingdom’s economic aspirations and people’s future.

“With businesses in Bahrain and across the globe hit by the pandemic and the ability to employ skilled and committed staff, the Beكن programme, developed with the support of the Ministry Transportation and Telecommunications is an integral part of the recovery and our contribution towards supporting the development of national talent.”

“The new programme highlights the possibilities that exist right now for all abilities, skillsets and levels of experience, with the objective of further developing the right calibre of potential logistics leaders for the industry and positioning Maritime expertise as a lucrative career option for the new generations,” Bannerman added further.

The first phase of the Beكن programme will focus on encouraging mid to senior level Bahrainis in leadership positions to explore the many opportunities available to them in fields that include Government Relations, Finance, Operations, Transformation, Asset Management and HSSE.

The development opportunities come with a robust training programme and onboarding process to induct selected candidates with functional, leadership and management competencies, the organisation’s Way of Working and logistics industry knowledge. -- TradeArabia News Service
