Drydocks World celebrates ‘World Health and Safety Day’

Drydocks World, an international service provider to the shipping, offshore, oil, gas and energy sectors, celebrated the 12th anniversary of ‘World Health and Safety Day’ by awarding various departments and subcontractors for their commitment to workplace safety and health.

Drydocks World’s highest priority is given to the principle of prevention, with the organisation promoting a culture of zero harm to prioritise the integrity of our workforce, assets and the environment, said a statement from the company.

The shipping company’s comprehensive services and innovative offshore project management methodology maintains health and safety mandates as a core commitment to its employees, clients and the community, it added.

The winners were selected based on health, safety, and the environment (HSE) performance and highest man-hours worked for year 2014.

The pipe, mobile plant and marine departments won for the Best HSE performance, with the Shell Prelude FLNG Turret project winning for Best New Building Project.

The award for Best Rig Project went to the teams working on the National Drilling Company’s Al Ghweifat and Al Ghallan rigs, as well as to the project team working on rig COSL Superior for COSL Drilling.

The Best Ship Repair Project was awarded to the teams working on vessels Semac 1, Abbay Wonz and D’Artagnan for clients Dredging International, Ethiopian Shipping, and Semac.

The Best HSE Performance by a subcontractor was awarded to Shipcare, Green Ocean and DCL.

In total, Drydocks World achieved an impressive 14 million lost time incident/injury (LTI) free man hours across the organisation during 2014, the company stated.

This reflects Drydocks World’s dedication to maintaining stringent health and safety standards throughout the company, with these awards recognising and motivating the project teams to continue striving towards the highest levels of excellence.

Drydocks World has been awarded with the “Sword of Honour” by the British Safety Council on 10 occasions and has been rated as a Five Star facility by the British Safety Council for the last 11 years. The shipping company’s policies aim to exceed health and safety standards by ensuring that employees and clients are part of its continued focus and journey towards zero harm, it added. – TradeArabia News Service
