Tripp Lite in Saudi hajj ministry upgrade

Jeddah, February 2, 2011

Tripp Lite, a leading manufacturer of power protection and connectivity equipment, said it has delivered two 80 kVA UPS Systems for main data centre of Ministry of Hajj as part of its upgrade initiative.

The systems are now being used to support the Umrah Database Centre's power, cooling and cabling infrastructure, said a statement from Tripp Lite.

In line with its upgradation process, the Ministry of Hajj (Sejel Technology) has invested SR800,000 ($213,317) towards new technology infrastructure, with aims of providing better services to the rising number of annual pilgrims to Makkah and Madinah.

The installation of the UPS was completed by Tripp Lite's Jeddah-based partner Tunsi Electronics and Compute TEC, with the entire project completed within its three-week planned duration, said a top official.

'We had more than 25 engineers and technicians work round-the-clock to ensure that the new system would be up and running by the deadline,' said Sameer Abu Mattar, projects manager of Tunsi Electronics and Computer TEC.

'The superior features of Tripp Lite products and our expertise in implementations of such scale have resulted in the success of this project and we are glad that the Ministry of Hajj was pleased by the end-results,' he added.

One of the most important benefits of the project is the considerable reduction in the time required to process pilgrims' visas, which can now be completed in less than 24 hours as opposed to 6 weeks prior to the implementation, the company said in a statement.

The project, which involved the replacement of the centre's UPS's and their batteries, air-conditioning system, power and network cabling, and generator, is now providing maximum benefits for and boosting the productivity of all datacentre staff, it added.

“This project is of particular relevance to us, given the massive extent of benefits it can afford Muslims worldwide stemming from seamless information sharing between the Ministry of Hajj and the private organisations that provide the necessary services to pilgrims,” said Vipin Sharma, VP of EMEA & India Sales, Tripp Lite.-TradeArabia News Service
