Ooredoo launches first 4G+ network in Qatar

DOHA, December 3, 2014

Ooredoo, a leading communications company in Qatar, has launched its new 4G+ network at a major event held at the company’s headquarters in West Bay, Qatar.

With the launch of 4G+, Ooredoo’s network has become even faster, making Qatar one of a handful of nations in the world to have the fastest mobile Internet service available, said a statement.

The network has been designed to offer the fastest browsing speeds in Qatar for smartphone users and will offer speeds of up to double the current average 4G mobile Internet speeds, it said.

Waleed Al-Sayed, chief operating officer, said: “We need to be one step ahead of our customers and of the country’s needs, which is why we were the first to launch Fibre, first for 4G and now first to launch 4G+. This service truly puts us on the map as one of the most connected countries in the world and will provide the fastest and best LTE service in Qatar for our people.”

The current available Ooredoo 4G speed is up to 150 Mbps. With 4G+, customers are now able to reach up to 225 Mbps, nearly double the average 4G speed in areas of Doha.

The areas with access to 4G+ speeds are the Corniche, West Bay lagoon, Katara, Souq Waqif, Al Rayyan, Shahaniya and Sealine.

To ensure customers can take advantage of the 4G+ speeds from launch, Ooredoo has launched three smart devices into the market which will work with 4G+ frequencies.

The devices, which include the Samsung Alpha, Huawei Ascend Mate 7 and Huawei E5786 Mi-fi, are available via Ooredoo Shops now. - TradeArabia News Service
