Registrations open for conference of sports women

ABU DHABI, July 18, 2017

The International Conference of Sports for Women (ICSW) has announced the opening of registration for those interested in attending the event, which returns for its fourth edition from November 6-7 at Adnec, Abu Dhabi.

Having established itself over the years as a leading global platform for all issues related to women’s sports, the 2017 conference seeks to pave the way for a brighter future for women in sports through its theme 'Inspiring Generations'.

Registrations for ICSW 2017 are free. However with a maximum of 1,000 delegate spots per day, demand is expected to outstrip availability, said organisers. Those who wish to attend are encouraged to register on http://fbma.ae/en/icsw/.

The two-day conference will incorporate two keynote speeches, five panel discussions and one academic session – as listed below - which aim to lay the groundwork for empowering women and younger generations and increasing female participation in sports.
1. Empowering Women: Sports and Leadership
2. Behavioral Change: Sports as the Norm
3. Sponsorship and Media: Increasing Value in Women’s Sports
4. The Making of a 21st Century Role Model – the Rise of Sports Women in the Arab World
5. Sports Across Generations: Opportunities and Challenges
6. Academic Session: Presentations of Shortlisted Papers

Moreover, the conference includes six afternoon workshops, and a marketplace that will feature exhibits by sponsors and various sports entities in addition to spaces for networking.

In the past, the conference has featured leading figures from across the world of sports such as legendary Brazilian footballer, Marta Da Silva, British double Olympic gold medalist, Kelly Holmes, American Paralympic gold medalist and Guinness World Record holder, Muffy Davis, French Wimbledon Champion, Marion Bartoli, and several members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Earlier this month, Saudi athlete Raha Moharrak, the first Saudi woman to ever summit Mount Everest, was announced as ICSW 2017’s first speaker. The revolutionary Arab sports icon will be taking part in the panel discussion entitled “The Making of a 21st Century Role Model – the Rise of Sports Women in the Arab World”. More inspirational panelists and keynote speakers from around the globe will be announced over the coming months.

ICSW is a visionary initiative by Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy (FBMA) that seeks to bring together individuals of all backgrounds who are passionate about sports in a productive dialogue through which they can address their hopes and dreams for a more inclusive and auspicious future for women in sports. It also reflects Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak’s vision for sports to become a part of every Emirati woman’s life.

“ICSW presents a unique opportunity for sports enthusiasts and professionals alike to meet and connect with like-minded individuals who are equally invested in the issues that affect them on a personal level as well as those that affect the sports industry both locally and globally”, says Dr. Omniyat Mohammed Al Hajeri, FBMA board member. “Bringing these people together will help us gain better insights into all the issues present within women’s sports in order to rightly assess and take further steps towards building a better future for younger generations”.

ICSW has also brought back its Call for Papers initiative for 2017, which invites students and researchers of various sports majors to put forward their best research for the chance to present it at a dedicated segment in the conference plenary, entitled Academic Session: Presentations of Shortlisted Papers. All those who are interested and have worked on research related to sports can submit their abstracts on the event’s website, www.fbma.ae/icsw.

Another initiative of the conference, the Sports Photography Exhibition, in partnership with Getty Images, calls on UAE nationals to submit their best sports photographs to enter the photography competition, through which they could win a top prize of Dh10,000 in addition to an internship with Getty and having their photo presented at the conference.  - TradeArabia News Service
