MFC to host Greenpeace

Dubai, June 24, 2007

Modhesh Fun City (MFC) for the first time will host a stall by Greenpeace during the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS).

Greenpeace is an international organisation which promotes the message of saving the environment.

The Greenpeace Mediterranean stall will teach children about the basics of recycling and reuse to conserve the natural resources, said a DSS official.

'Every year MFC offers a bundle of new surprises to please the visitors. This year, the DSS plans to reach out to children and their parents to get the 'green message' across,' DSS events, operations and services director Yousif Mubarak said.

'MFC is the ideal venue to create awareness among young children as well as their parents on the need to save the environment for a better tomorrow. Here, children are taught to value precious natural resources such as paper and do their bit to save the earth.'

'They are trained to use paper judiciously in order to conserve the natural forests which are fast being depleted from the face of the earth. They are also taught to make art objects from recycled paper and glass and differentiate between plastic and paper.'

With their presence at the MFC Greenpeace aims to reach out to the children and educate them early in life about the problems plaguing the planet.

“We chose to have a stand at the Modhesh Fun City because it is a popular venue for families and provides a golden opportunity to reach out to a large number of people at the same time,” Elia Manouf, a representative of Greenpeace from Lebanon, said.

He also pointed out that the organisation would be participating in the nature surprises as part of the awareness drive.

Greenpeace has initiated two major campaigns in the UAE namely the 'energy campaign' which proposes to end the use of solid energy producing greenhouse gases and a campaign to label genetically modified foods.

Located in the Central Hall of the Fun City, the Greenpeace stall is a part of the Arts and Crafts Zone where it relays the message of recycling and reducing waste. TradeArabia News Service
