Sniffer dogs will patrol King Fahad Causeway from next month, Bahrain officials said. 

State-of-the-art Xray equipment capable of scanning large vehicles is also in the process of being installed, the Directorate General of Customs Affairs said in a statement.

The tough new security measures are being taken to stem the tide of prohibited goods entering Bahrain, it said. They would also help in the detection of drugs, explosives and weapons.

The new equipment is also expected to reduce waiting times at the causeway. Bahraini Customs officials will receive training in managing the detector dog unit with
